JICUF Revamps Funding Opportunities for ICU Students & Faculty
Since 2016, JICUF has offered ICU students and faculty the opportunity to apply for funding to design and implement projects that advance the Foundation’s mission. Over the past seven years, JICUF has provided over ¥82 million to 306 projects. The projects have had a significant impact on the ICU community. The funding opportunities have also become more popular and JICUF regularly receives between 40 – 50 proposals each academic term.
In April 2024, JICUF will be revamping funding opportunities for ICU students and faculty. For students, JICUF will offer three programs: SDG Projects, the Othmer Research Fellowships and the Social Impact Internships. We aspire to cultivate the ideals of global citizenship through the chance to conceptualize and execute projects that resonate with the SDGs. Through these programs, we expect students to acquire project management, communication and critical thinking skills, all while exploring how they can contribute to the well-being of humanity.
SDG Projects
The Sustainable Development Goal Projects (SDG Projects) is a funding opportunity offered by the Japan ICU Foundation to support student-led projects that are aligned with and contribute to the SDGs. This initiative prioritizes projects implemented on campus or within the local community during the academic term. Click here to learn more.
Othmer Research Fellowships
The Othmer Research Fellowships is a funding opportunity to support undergraduate and graduate students pursuing research projects during the summer break. The Fellowships will support research projects that align with and contribute towards the SDGs.
Social Impact Internships
Social Impact Internships is a summer opportunity offered by the Japan ICU Foundation for undergraduate students at ICU. The program facilitates meaningful internships with social impact oriented organizations, providing students with hands-on experience in contributing to the advancement of the SDGs.
Faculty Grants
For the ICU faculty, JICUF will launch the Faculty Grants program. Largely a continuation of its existing grants program, JICUF will support projects that align with our mission of nurturing global citizens. We encourage faculty to design projects that emphasize collaboration, cultivate cultural awareness, and develop the skills and mindset necessary for an interconnected world. JICUF prioritizes projects that have an international focus and benefit students. Click here to learn more.
Applications to the SDG Projects and Faculty Grants program will open in April 2024. The Othmer Research Fellowship and Public Service Internships will start receiving applications in December 2024 at the beginning of the Winter Term.
We are excited to support the ICU community with these new opportunities.
