Volunteer to Support ICU Students! Apply to Become a SDG Projects Grant Reviewer
The Japan ICU Foundation (JICUF) is seeking ICU alumni and former faculty volunteers to assist JICUF in the review of ICU student proposals for the recently launched Sustainable Development Goals Projects (SDG Projects). SDG Projects is a funding opportunity that supports student-led projects that are aligned with and contribute to the SDGs. The initiative prioritizes projects implemented on campus or within the local community during the academic term.
A small team of reviewers will be asked to evaluate SDG Projects applications. Through careful review and evaluation, reviewers will help us select projects that apply the principles of the SDGs on the ICU campus and in the surrounding communities. This is a great opportunity for anyone who wants to learn what current students are interested in, and contribute to their alma mater!
Responsibilities:
- Review and assess SDG Projects applications. We envision receiving 10 – 20 applications per cycle. There are three cycles per year, aligning with ICU’s academic calendar.
- Complete evaluations based on established rubric in a timely manner. The rubric examines alignment with SDGs, project feasibility, potential impact, and budget justification.
- Provide constructive feedback to applicants to help strengthen their proposals.
- Maintain confidentiality of all proposal information and adhere to JICUF’s ethical guidelines.
Must-Have:
- Understanding of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and their objectives.
- Ability to critically analyze information, identify strengths and weaknesses, and provide constructive feedback.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
- Business-level English proficiency (reading, writing, and speaking)
Good-to-Have:
- Experience reviewing grant proposals or similar materials, or strong willingness to learn.
- Passion for social impact and a commitment to supporting student-led initiatives.
- Ability to read Japanese.
Time Commitment:
Reviewers will ideally commit to one year of service (three cycles). New reviewers will receive an online training with JICUF staff on how to use the online reviewer portal and understand the evaluation process.
Reviewers will have two weeks to complete reviews each cycle. The following are the two-week periods:
- May 1 – 15, 2024 (Meet virtually on May 17, 2024)
- October 1 – 15, 2024 (Meet virtually on October 17, 2024)
- Jan. 15 – 29, 2025 (Meet virtually on January 31, 2025)
Reviewers can anticipate spending 8 to 10 hours during each cycle.
