Global Link 2016 & New Intern Ms. Shiori Kitajima
From July 5th to 29th, we will host the 3rd annual Global Link program here in NYC!
This year, we are excited to welcome 12 undergraduate students from ICU and spend an event-packed 4 weeks with them.
During the program, students will investigate the factors that make New York a diverse global city. The agenda will include visits to the U.N. and the Permanent Mission of Japan to the U.N., volunteer work at Habitat for Humanity and the Bowery Mission, walking tour of Harlem and Columbia University, trip to Washington D.C., and meeting/networking with ICU alumni. There will of course be time for fun too, as students have the weekends to explore the city. We are even planning a trip to Coney Island!
Ms. Shiori Kitajima, ICU alumna and recent Teacher’s College, Columbia University graduate, will be interning with us to help run the program. Shiori studied international educational development at Columbia. Her areas of interest are international education policy, gender and large-scale international assessment. Her thesis investigated the factors that best predict teacher job satisfaction in Japan.
Last summer, she worked as an education intern for UNICEF’s Nepal Office, focusing on earthquake emergency response. She has also previously worked for Save the Children’s Somalia Office to research ways of implementing the organization’s global strategy in Somalia.
During her days at ICU, the Kagoshima native was a member of the choir, studied at Washington and Lee University in Virginia, and interned at the World Economic Forum Tokyo Office.
More information on the program will follow!
