ICU, as a bilingual liberal arts institution, welcomes students from around the world to its lovely verdant campus in the western suburbs of Tokyo. Those who have attended schools outside the regular Japanese educational system for at least the last two years prior to enrollment, and who possess sufficient English language proficiency in order to take college level courses in English are eligible to apply through September Admission. (No prior knowledge of Japanese is required.)

Why come to ICU?

First, ICU offers an outstanding education: small classes, dedicated faculty, supportive and beautiful campus environment. Second is mastery of the Japanese language and culture. You don’t have to know Japanese to enter ICU, but by the time you graduate you will be an active learner in English and Japanese. These international skills will serve you well beyond your college years. ICU opens doors to a variety of careers and advanced educational opportunities relating to Japan, Asia, and beyond.

How to apply

The admissions process for September applicants, like the one for April applicants (who are primarily based in Japan), is subject to ICU admissions policies and regulations, based on Japanese national educational requirements. Prospective September students are required to submit a number of documents which are subject to careful inspection by the Admissions Decision Committee. The documents required vary according to the applicant’s educational background (“Category of Students“) and are specified in Information for September Applicants, so please read the information in the booklet carefully to determine what documents you would need to submit in order to be a successful applicant.

First Application Period

Online Entry: Jan. 6, 2016 – Jan. 22, 2016

Deadline for submission of all application documents: February 1, 2016

Notification Date: Early March
Second Application Period

Feb. 15, 2016 – Mar. 4, 2016

Deadline for submission of all application documents: March 15, 2016

Notification Date: Late April

NOTE: The only differences between the two periods are the application deadlines and the notification dates. With respect to admission, there is no advantage or disadvantage in applying to either.
