A Learning Journey to Japan: Disaster As A Springboard For Building Thriving Resilient Communities
ICU Alumna, Carolyn Treadway (JYA ’61) will be returning to Japan this November to take part in a Learning Journey with a focus on Disaster as a Springboard for Building Resilient Communities.
In May 2013, Carolyn made the journey from the U.S. to ICU’s campus in Tokyo to visit her “Japanese sisters”. During this trip, she was connected with ICU psychology professors who were working in Tohoku. Carolyn visited the East Japan Center for Psychological Relief Efforts that was created by an ICU Psychology Professor, Dr. Hide Kotani, and sat in on a group counseling session for survivors of the 3.11 Earthquake and Tsunami.
Since then, she has written an article for the JICUF e-newsletter about her experience and helped raise funds through the Japan ICU Foundation to support the long term psychological relief efforts in Tohoku. This November, she will be on a Learning Journey to Japan with New Stories, Byakko Shinko Kai and the Goi Peace Foundation. The theme of the trip will be: Disaster As A Springboard For Building Thriving Resilient Communities
