Global Link Student: Anan Ogawa
My name is Anan Ogawa, and I’m a senior student in ICU. (I can’t believe that this is the last year!) I plan to graduate in March 2015. From next April, I will start working in a trading company in Japan.
I have two majors, Economics and International Relations. I am especially interested in the field of development. After studying in ICU for 2 years, I decided to choose economics as the tool I want to learn more about to help with the development issues in Asia.
In my junior year, I worked at the Grameen Bank in Bangladesh for a summer internship and to Hong Kong through an ICU exchange program. In Hong Kong, I studied Chinese economics and Chinese politics. China and Japan are both Asian countries and have lots of other similarities, however, it’s also true that there are some conflicts between two. During my time in Hong Kong, I learned a lot about Asian countries and the power business has to make strong bonds among several countries. I have tried to get as much experience as I can during my university years and have been so thankful for my opportunity to work with the U.S. embassy in Japan, IT start-up company, Grameen Bank, Bloomberg, and this summer through Global Link with Asia Society.
Asia Society is non profit organization (NPO) and the leading educational organization dedicated to promoting mutual understanding and strengthening partnerships among people, leaders and institutions of Asia and the United States in a global context. Across the field of arts, business, culture, education, and policy, Asia Society provides insight, generates ideas, and promotes collaboration to address present challenges and create a shared future. I’m working in Business section with wonderful bosses and am in charge of preparing public programs that will be held next year.
I have learned a lot from this opportunity to work at Asia Society and the experience of working in International organization is totally different from my other internships in Japan. I’m sure this experience will help me when I start working.
Last, but not least, my time in NYC with the JICUF Global Link summer program has been amazing. I am really enjoying living in this big city. Not only because of my internship but also from meeting so many interesting people in NYC. I have really learned a lot.
I would like to say thank you for JICUF for giving me such a wonderful opportunity!
