David Janes Honored with Ruth Miller Global Citizenship Award
Outgoing JICUF Board Chair Dr. David Janes has been bestowed with the inaugural Ruth Miller Global Citizenship Award. The announcement came at a special dinner held to mark JICUF’s 75th anniversary in Los Angeles on March 8, 2025. The Ruth Miller Award honors individuals who embody the values of global citizenship while making significant contributions to JICUF. JICUF Revamps Funding Opportunities for ICU Students & Faculty
In April 2024, JICUF will be revamping funding opportunities for ICU students and faculty. For students, JICUF will offer three programs: SDG Projects, the Othmer Research Fellowships and the Social Impact Internships. We aspire to cultivate the ideals of global citizenship through the chance to conceptualize and execute projects that resonate with the SDGs.

Online Programs Provide Connections During the Pandemic
The Japan ICU Foundation’s work is centered on building connections between people. While we have had to put some of our regular work on hold, online programming has enabled us to maintain and even expand connections during the pandemic. Highlights from My Time in Japan – Paul Hastings
JICUF Executive Director Paul Hastings moved to Japan with his family this July and is currently living on the ICU campus. This is his report for his first fourth months at ICU.
Rethinking Peace Book Launch Held at ICU
On October 25th, JICUF and the ICU Rotary Peace Center hosted a Rethinking Peace book launch. The book emerges from Rethinking Peace Studies, a three-year project funded by JICUF, and the edited volume features 14 chapters written by authors who participated in one of the project.
