We are pleased to announce the third cohort of JICUF grant recipients!
Last November, ICU Professor Stephen Nagy led a group of undergraduate students on a two-week academic and cultural exchange trip to China. Supported by funding from the JICUF Grants Initiative, Professor Nagy and six students traveled to Beijing, Shanghai, and Nanjing. Along the way they stopped by historical sites, attended lectures at Chinese universities, and engaged with Chinese college students. Last November, ICU Professor of International Relations Stephen Nagy led a group of undergraduate students to China. The Japan ICU Foundation awarded him a grant of ¥1,100,000 to subsidize the Japan-China Young Leaders Development Project (YLDP). Jordan Woodard, a JICUF scholarship recipient, is from Austin, Texas. She is a junior student studying for four years at ICU, and her major is media, communication, and culture (MCC). We asked her a few questions about her life at ICU.
Li Boxiang is a sophomore student at ICU, who is receiving a scholarship from the JICUF. He is from China, and has yet to decide on his major but is interested in information science, economics and business. We asked him a few questions to get to know him better.
JICUF awarded Associate Professor of Linguistics Seunghun Lee a grant of ¥300,000 this fall to host the Asian Junior Linguists (AJL) Conference at ICU. Professor Lee organized the conference with Professor Tomoyuki Yoshida, the current chair of ICU’s psychology and linguistics department, to provide a forum for pre-doctoral linguistics students to present their work. The conference took place from December 2nd (Friday) to 4th (Sunday) in ICU’s Dialogue House.
ICU Professor Norie Takazawa, who specializes in modern French history, received a grant of ¥400,000 from the JICUF during the Fall Term to convene a workshop on “Considering Early Modern Society and Social Status from the Gender Perspective.”
Katie Cheshire is a one exchange student (one-year regular or OYR) who is receiving the JICUF scholarship for international students. We recently had the opportunity to ask her a few questions.
ICU Professor Natsumi Ikoma, who specializes in gender studies, was awarded a grant of ¥335,380 from the JICUF for her program “Performance of Gender in Kabuki.”
