Global Link Student: Paul Clark
Global Link is a new program of the Japan ICU Foundation that matches four year ICU students with organizations in New York City for seven weeks. The goal of this program is to provide ICU students with a unique experience abroad that will help them develop skills that will be invaluable in their life and career.
My name is Paul Clark, and I am a four year regular undergraduate student from a small farm in Baltimore, Maryland. Some of my interests are cars, renewable energy, market evaluation, and foreign business management. In the future I would like to put my interests and hobbies to good use in the global market in order to create stronger economic connections between Japan and America. I chose ICU as the foundation for my career path because of its various international facets and opportunities.
I am preparing to enter my third year of study at ICU,majoring in Media, Culture, and Communication with a focus in business. In the future I would like to get involved with various international businesses and, specifically in the automobile industry, to further business relations between Japan, America and Europe.
Through the JICUF Global Link program, I am working with two nonprofits: the Japan ICU Foundation and Infinite Family. Infinite Family is online video mentoring program focused on connecting students and adults as mentors and teachers with South African children who are living in communities affected by HIV/AIDs in order to help the children build a stronger educational foundation and provide a window to a world outside their hometown. I am helping Infinite Family evolve from the final stages of a beginning organization into a larger-scale model that is able to manage more mentors and subsequently help more children.
During my time at the Japan ICU Foundation I will focus on creating connections with ICU students, ICU Alumni, friends of the ICU community, and possible future employers for students to reach out to, in order to create a stronger community that will benefit ICU and its students in the short and long term. Some of my responsibilities will include program development, event planning, creating PR material and writing for the JICUF e-newsletter.
My time at ICU so far has been an unforgettable experience and has led me to meet many interesting and important people. Using the newfound experience given to me by interning with the Japan ICU Foundation and Infinite Family, I hope to increase the presence and general awareness of ICU in the global community and look forward to meeting as many ICU alumni as possible!
