ICU Professor Emeritus’s Lecture on the ‘Hidden Impact’ of the Great East Japan Earthquake
Excerpts from the lecture:
“When the earthquake disaster happened, there were a great number of individuals and organizations spinning their wheels, not knowing what needed to be done. Moreover, there were many people who needed help, but did not know exactly what they needed and what they did not need. This information must be made known as widely and as quickly as possible. Without this information, everyone becomes a victim, one way or another.
When we have a solid understanding of what must be done during times of crisis, we increase our collective power to fight together, to survive together, and to fall together. It is my hope that with the knowledge provided by this book, we can build that “fighting spirit” and combat the “hidden impact” together.”
“The largest lesson we have learned from the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Disaster is that we must bridge the divide between the individual victims of a disaster and the aid those victims receive from individuals and organizations who provide specialized medical and psychological support. “
