The Japan ICU Foundation is committed to supporting education pathways for Ukrainians displaced by the Russian invasion of Ukraine. In collaboration with Pathways Japan, we support two programs that enable displaced Ukrainians to travel to Japan to continue their education. The two programs are described below.
University Pathways Program
Japan Ukraine University Pathways is a program for admitting students who have fled Ukraine to universities in Japan. International Christian University (ICU), a private university in Mitaka, Japan, is currently the only university with a University Pathways program. Accepted students will be enrolled at ICU as “auditors.”
The program will provide the following:

- Airfare to Japan
- On-campus housing
- Auditing fee
- Living expense
- Support for visa issuance and residence permit
Language School Pathways Program
Japan Ukraine Language School Pathways is a program for admitting students who have fled Ukraine to language schools in Japan. Accepted students will be placed in one of the partner schools across Japan. The students will be invited to complete a two-year program to study Japanese intensively.

- Tuition
- Support for visa issuance and residence permit
- Introduction of part-time job opportunities and housing
