We are happy to introduce our new photography intern, Ms. Hana Kamio.
Hana is an undergraduate student at ICU, and she will be taking photographs of JICUF-sponsored events and programs on campus. Hana participated in the JICUF’s Global Link program this summer. We asked her to introduce herself:
“I am Hana Kamio, a junior student at ICU. My main interest is in the impact of education on gender perception. As a minor, I am studying interpretation. Although the interpretation classes are tough, I hope to be involved in Tokyo 2020 Olympics as a volunteer interpreter. When I say that I am interested in interpretation, people may assume that I am naturally bilingual, but I was born and raised in Tokyo and have never lived abroad. The two months that I spent in the U.S. this summer was the longest period I’ve stayed in a foreign country. At ICU, I have struggled at times with an inferiority complex comparing myself with my friends who’ve spent most of their lives outside Japan. But now, I appreciate the fact that I could meet such a wide variety of unique personalities on campus. This has been a new experience. I participated in Global Link 2016 in New York and traveled by myself to Los Angeles over the summer, where I was able to meet many ICU alumni working in various fields. This gave me a renewed appreciation of belonging to the ICU community. Knowing that these graduates who have something in common with me were building great careers affected me in a positive way.
Now that the summer full of precious memories is over, my senior thesis and job hunting are my biggest concerns. As I reflect on my life and future, I will continue to pursue my passion for dancing and designing.”
Thank you Hana. We looked forward to working with you!
