The Japan ICU Foundation has been offering Study Abroad Scholarships to ICU undergraduate students spending their junior year abroad. We interviewed one of five students who received this year’s scholarship, Miyu Higashimura. Miyu is currently studying at Guilford College, North Carolina.
Visiting Scholar Professor Isabel Arredondo
Professor Beverly Curran received a grant from JICUF last fall to invite Professor Isabel Arredondo of the State University of New York at Plattsburgh as a visiting scholar. Professor Arredondo, who specializes in Latin American literature and film, is currently researching the Super 8 film movement. She visited ICU for two weeks in January and lectured in Professor Curran’s media translation class.

JAPAN-CHINA YOUNG LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROJECT PARTICIPANTS SHARE THEIR EXPERIENCES
Last November, ICU Professor Stephen Nagy led a group of undergraduate students on a two-week academic and cultural exchange trip to China. Supported by funding from the JICUF Grants Initiative, Professor Nagy and six students traveled to Beijing, Shanghai, and Nanjing. Along the way they stopped by historical sites, attended lectures at Chinese universities, and engaged with Chinese college students. Six ICU Students Participate in Young Leaders Development Project in China
Last November, ICU Professor of International Relations Stephen Nagy led a group of undergraduate students to China. The Japan ICU Foundation awarded him a grant of ¥1,100,000 to subsidize the Japan-China Young Leaders Development Project (YLDP). First Asian Junior Linguistics Conference Held at ICU
JICUF awarded Associate Professor of Linguistics Seunghun Lee a grant of ¥300,000 this fall to host the Asian Junior Linguists (AJL) Conference at ICU. Professor Lee organized the conference with Professor Tomoyuki Yoshida, the current chair of ICU’s psychology and linguistics department, to provide a forum for pre-doctoral linguistics students to present their work. The conference took place from December 2nd (Friday) to 4th (Sunday) in ICU’s Dialogue House.
