
ICU Students Participate in Space Law Moot Court Competition, Wins 3rd Best Speaker Prize
Assistant Professor Hiromichi Matsuda who teaches law at ICU recently led a group of undergraduate students to participate in the 12th Space Law Moot Court Competition. ICU student, Ms. Chizuru Yamazaki was awarded the third best speaker prize. JICUF supported Professor Matsuda’s team through a grant.

Each year, the Japan ICU Foundation provides about $200,000 for scholarships at ICU. Bhuwan Shankar Bhatt is a doctoral student who is receiving a JICUF scholarship. We interviewed him to get to know him better.

Interview with Study Abroad Scholarship Recipient, Machi Niiya
For the last few years, the Japan ICU Foundation has been offering Study Abroad scholarships to ICU undergraduate students who spend their junior year in the United States. This year, we awarded scholarships to five students studying at the University of California (UC) Berkeley, UC Davis, UCLA, Middlebury College and Guilford College.
This week, we interviewed one of the recipients, Machi Niiya, who is currently studying at Middlebury College in Vermont.

The Japan ICU Foundation has been offering Study Abroad Scholarships to ICU undergraduate students spending their junior year abroad. We interviewed one of five students who received this year’s scholarship, Miyu Higashimura. Miyu is currently studying at Guilford College, North Carolina.

Visiting Scholar Professor Isabel Arredondo
Professor Beverly Curran received a grant from JICUF last fall to invite Professor Isabel Arredondo of the State University of New York at Plattsburgh as a visiting scholar. Professor Arredondo, who specializes in Latin American literature and film, is currently researching the Super 8 film movement. She visited ICU for two weeks in January and lectured in Professor Curran’s media translation class.

JAPAN-CHINA YOUNG LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROJECT PARTICIPANTS SHARE THEIR EXPERIENCES
Last November, ICU Professor Stephen Nagy led a group of undergraduate students on a two-week academic and cultural exchange trip to China. Supported by funding from the JICUF Grants Initiative, Professor Nagy and six students traveled to Beijing, Shanghai, and Nanjing. Along the way they stopped by historical sites, attended lectures at Chinese universities, and engaged with Chinese college students. The following are the six student participants’ impressions on the trip and what they learned. My favorite discussions in China were with the China Foreign Affairs University in Beijing.
