
Interview with Former Exchange Student Tim Fraser
Tim Fraser was an exchange student at ICU in fall 2014. At the time, he was a junior student at Middlebury College, and since then he has graduated and returned to Japan as a Fulbright Fellow. During his time at ICU, Tim participated in Team Asunaro’s volunteer activities in Tohoku, which the JICUF sponsored with funds raised from alumni and friends after the Tohoku Earthquake of 2011. Tim kindly agreed to be interviewed by us.

The First David W. Vikner Social Service Prize Awarded to Miu Yamanaka
The Alumni Association’s Dream Competition (“Doricon”) 2016 took place on September 25th in the Alumni House. The Doricon is organized annually as a way for alumni to help current students realize their dreams, and this was its twelfth year.

ICU & ICUHS Joint Information Session
On Sunday, September 18th, the JICUF hosted an ICU and ICU High School Joint Information Session at the Interchurch Center, where our office is located. ICU President Junko Hibiya, who was in New York to attend the JICUF trustees meeting, gave a presentation about the university to an audience mostly comprised of prospective students and their families.

ICU Alumni & Friends Reception with President Junko Hibiya
On Friday, September 16th, the JICUF hosted an ICU alumni & friends reception in New York City to welcome President Junko Hibiya and Professor Heather Montgomery from Tokyo. The two guests from ICU were in the city to attend the JICUF’s semi-annual Board of Trustees meeting. The reception was held at Shinbashi restaurant in Midtown and was attended by approximately 80 alumni, friends, trustees and staff.

Interview with JICUF Grant Recipient Kai Nakagawa of Theater Niji
ICU student Kai Nakagawa successfully applied for a JICUF spring term grant on behalf of Theater Niji, a student theatrical group that performs musicals both locally and internationally. We had a chance to interview Kai.

Team Asunaro’s Tohoku Relief Project
Professor Etsuko Kato (anthropology) received a grant from the JICUF this spring. The ¥336,000 grant is being used to enable ICU students to participate in activities led by Team Asunaro, a volunteer group that has been contributing to recovery efforts in Tohoku. We interviewed Mr. Shimpei Suga, leader of Team Asunaro, and Prof. Kato.
