Takamori Park is an ICU student spending his junior year abroad at the University of California, Berkeley. He is also one of five ICU students to receive the JICUF’s Study Abroad Scholarship for the 2015-16 academic year. This is the second year this scholarship has been awarded.
JICUF Launches New grants Initiative
We are pleased to announce a new grants initiative for ICU students and faculty. As detailed on our website, starting in 2016 we will provide direct support for activities planned and executed by members of the ICU community through our Grants for Faculty and Grants for Students initiatives.
Interview with Dr. David W. Vikner, former JICUF President
Dr. David W. Vikner retired as President of the Japan ICU Foundation this past August after 13 years of service. David’s career in global education spanned five decades and two continents, North America and Asia. He taught and worked in Hong Kong, Taiwan, China and in New York City, where he spent the latter half of his career serving as the President of two significant organizations, the United Board for Christian Higher Education in Asia and the Japan ICU Foundation.
ICU Rotary Peace Fellow Alumna Megumi Nishikura shares the news on her latest film
Megumi Nishikura received the Rotary Peace Fellowship and attended ICU as a Master’s degree student from 2006 – 08. Megumi’s passion is to use the medium of film and video to remind people of our common humanity. In 2009, she began to explore stories from the multiracial community in both Japan and the United States. Her directorial feature debut, “Hafu – the mixed-race experience in Japan” screened theatrically in Japan, aired on PBS, and won the Best Documentary award at the Philadelphia Asian American Film Festival in 2013.

JICUF represents ICU at the UN International School (UNIS)
The Japan ICU Foundation (JICUF) has a tradition of representing ICU at the UN International School (UNIS) in Manhattan. This past month, we joined in the annual “Aki Matsuri”, which featured various cultural activities and a Japanese language speech contest. It was a great chance to spread the word about ICU to students from all over New York and New Jersey!
ICU September Admissions recruitment season has begun!
ICU, as a bilingual liberal arts institution, welcomes students from around the world to its lovely verdant campus in the western suburbs of Tokyo. Those who have attended schools outside the regular Japanese educational system for at least the last two years prior to enrollment, and who possess sufficient English language proficiency in order to take college level courses in English are eligible to apply through September Admission. (No prior knowledge of Japanese is required.)
Interview with JICUF Visiting Scholar: Dr. Ludger Kuehnhardt
Dr. Ludger Kuenhardt, a Professor at the Center for European Integration Studies (ZEI), Bonn University, was a JICUF Visiting Scholar at ICU this past May. The Visiting Scholars Program was initiated in 2002 in response to an ICU request for assistance in inviting influential scholars from abroad to ICU for short periods of time, ranging from several days to two weeks.
