JICUF attends OACAC Conference in Tampa
Program Director Mark Flanigan attended the annual Overseas Association for College Admissions Counseling (OACAC) Conference, which was held at the University of South Florida (USF) in Tampa Bay, FL. Over the July 4 weekend, five ICU students arrived in New York City as the pioneering participants in Global Link, a new summer program administered by the Japan ICU Foundation.
Interview with ICU Alumnus and JICUF Visiting Professor Dr. Satoshi Tomioka
Professor Satoshi Tomioka is an ICU alumnus from the class of ’87. He is currently a Professor of Linguistics at the University of Delaware, and recently returned to ICU as a JICUF Visiting Scholar to participate in the Formal Approaches to Japanese Linguistics conference.

Program Director Tara DeWorsop recently had a chance to interview Christine Nalubowa. Christine received her BA and MA from ICU, and is a recipient of scholarship support from the Japan ICU Foundation and Rotary Yoneyama.
Global Link Student: Honami Iizuka
Global Link is a new program of the Japan ICU Foundation that matches four year ICU students with organizations in New York City for seven weeks. The goal of this program is to provide ICU students with a unique experience abroad that will help them develop skills that will be invaluable in their life and career.

Program Director Mark Flanigan Presents at the UN
Based on an invitation from Pacific Forum CSIS, Mark Flanigan had the pleasure of joining the World Sports Values Summit for Peace and Development at the United Nations here in NYC. As part of the Summit, Mark was invited to serve on a panel entitled “The Transformational Potential of the Tokyo Olympics and International Sporting Platforms.” Mark spoke about his experiences living in Nagasaki and Tokyo, and shared his thoughts on the impacts of both the 1964 and 2020 Summer Olympic Games on Tokyo and Japan as a whole.
JICUF Participates in CULCON Summit in Washington, D.C.
Members of The U.S.-Japan Conference on Cultural and Educational Interchange (CULCON) and other U.S.-Japan related organizations, including The Japan ICU Foundation, met yesterday in Washington D.C. to discuss key takeaways of the President Obama / Prime Minister Abe joint statement adopting CULCON’s goal of doubling two-way student exchange by the year 2020. Representatives of over 20 organizations joined Susan Stevenson, Deputy Assistant Secretary, Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs, U.S. Department of State, in discussing the design and implementation of a new exchange program.
