Rethinking Translation, Memory and Dialogue through Butoh-based Performance
Applicant: Daniel Fernandez
Grant Amount: ¥544,000
An experimental Butoh-based mixed-media performance project, which seeks to engage the key themes of Translation, Memory and Dialogue emerging through the Rethinking Peace Studies seminars in 2014-2015. The creative process will unfold through a fluid and ever-changing convergence of the arts and humanities, engaging dance, calligraphy and photography in particular. The work is intended to inspire deeper reflections on how translation, memory and dialogue play out in contested spaces and conditions of conflict. The very act of collaborating on this performance across different disciplines and creative practices may yield productive tensions among these concepts, transforming our understanding of them in new ways.
