Social Status and Women: Crossover French and Japanese Early Modern History
Applicant: Norie Takazawa
Grant Amount: ¥400,000
The aim of this project is to initiate a new stage in the collaboration of two teams of French and Japanese historians specializing in the Early Modern Period, who have been working together since 2006. Based on the results already achieved in our study of urban history, this international group is now planning a research project focusing on the social status, especially of women, in the early modern Society of Orders. This will be the second stage of our collaboration. The objectives of the project lie in a joint and comparative analysis of the political communities of the Ancien Regime in France and of Edo period Japan, to better understand their characteristics and their similarities.
