Growing up biculturally between Japan and the United States, studying abroad in Sri Lanka during college and living and working in India have deeply impacted me. JICUF Holds Its Board Meeting and Reception in New York

JICUF held its fall board meeting in New York on Saturday, September 9th. The night before the board meeting, JICUF hosted a reception at an Italian restaurant in Midtown for ICU alumni and friends. Approximately 70 people attended the reception, including ICU President Shoichiro Iwakiri, Vice President for International Academic Exchange Mark Williams, Managing Trustee Tetsuro Tomioka, ICU alumni living in or visiting New York, friends of JICUF, and JICUF trustees and staff.

Global Link Alumni Interview: Tomoaki Saito & Yukiko Takei

From 2014 to 2019, JICUF hosted Global Link, a summer program for ICU undergraduate students. (The program was canceled in 2020 due to the pandemic, and there are plans to reintroduce it in 2024.) With the purpose of helping students contemplate their future, Global Link provided the opportunity to explore a wide range of global careers. JICUF Hosts ICU Student Weekend in NYC

From Friday, January 20 to Sunday, January 22, JICUF hosted the first ever “ICU Student Weekend” in NYC for ICU students currently studying in the US through ICU’s exchange program. 22 students participated across the US from California to New Jersey.

JICUF Hosts Global Link Summer Program for ICU Students

In July, JICUF welcomed twelve ICU undergraduate students for our Global Link summer program. During the four weeks, from July 5th to 27th, the students were exposed to global careers in New York City and Washington, D.C. Calling on the wide network of ICU alumni and friends in both cities, JICUF organized office visits, professional roundtables, networking events, volunteer activities and professional skills workshops. The activities aimed to inspire the students as they contemplate their future career paths.

This month, we asked Ms. Chizuko Muranaka Broinowski (ID 88) to look back at her time at ICU. After graduating from ICU, Chizuko earned two master’s degrees in communication and journalism in the U.K., and worked in journalism for many years. She moved to Lausanne, Switzerland, from New York in 2009, and currently works as a freelance interpreter.
