JICUF Makes a Pledge for the Global Refugee Forum
The second Global Refugee Forum will be held in Geneva from December 13 to 15. JICUF submitted a pledge to the Forum to continue supporting refugee higher education.

From March 30 to April 1, third-year undergraduate student at ICU Hikari Hirata, PhD candidate at Waseda University Suzan Housseini, and JICUF Vice President Aki Takada attended a conference titled “Students as Partners: Equipping Student Leaders as Partners for Sustainable Humanitarian Action” at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Canada.
In May, five Ukrainian students were welcomed to ICU through the Japan-Ukraine University Pathways program co-managed by JICUF and Pathways Japan. The program has since expanded to other universities in Japan.
We are thrilled to announce that two Syrian Scholars Initiative (SSI) and two United States Scholars Initiative (USSI) recipients have been accepted by ICU and plan to matriculate in September 2018!
JICUF is pleased to announce the JICUF Global Scholarship. There are four subcategories within this program, namely the Syrian Scholars Initiative, the U.S. Scholars Initiative, the Exchange Student Initiative and the Study Abroad Initiative.

Jordan Woodard, a JICUF scholarship recipient, is from Austin, Texas. She is a junior student studying for four years at ICU, and her major is media, communication, and culture (MCC). We asked her a few questions about her life at ICU.
Li Boxiang is a sophomore student at ICU, who is receiving a scholarship from the JICUF. He is from China, and has yet to decide on his major but is interested in information science, economics and business. We asked him a few questions to get to know him better.

In 2009, Dr. Yasuyuki Horie and his wife Donna endowed the Horie Takematsu and Koh Scholarship at ICU to recognize top students in the natural sciences. Dr. Horie graduated from ICU in 1961 with a Bachelor of Science degree in physics and subsequently received his MS in applied science from Yale and a PhD in physics from Washington State University. A successful career as a scientist brought him to universities and laboratories on three continents, before retiring in Santa Fe, New Mexico..
