JICUF launched the United States Scholars Initiative (USSI) in 2018 to increase the number of degree-seeking undergraduate students from the US at ICU. For the last five years, we aimed to recruit two US students with excellent academic standing, and cover their full tuition for four years. The first two USSI students graduated this summer. Currently, six USSI students are studying at ICU, including two new students who matriculated this month. Myra Lotus Shikimachi-Stickney and Julia Yamaguchi are the fourth cohort of recipients of JICUF’s United States Scholars Initiative (USSI) scholarship. USSI aims to increase the number of degree-seeking undergraduate students from the United States at ICU. This merit scholarship provides full-tuition support for four years of undergraduate studies at ICU.

JICUF Participates in Harumatsuri at UNIS

On March 19th, JICUF staff participated in the Harumatsuri (Spring Festival) organized by the Northeast Council of Japanese Teachers (NECTJ) at the United Nations International School (UNIS). Through hosting a “Chopsticks Challenge,” we introduced ICU and our U.S. Scholars Initiative to NYC metro area high school students studying Japanese.

JICUF to Open Applications for United States Scholars Initiative and Study Abroad Scholarship

On September 1st, the Japan ICU Foundation will open applications for the United States Scholars Initiative (USSI) and the Study Abroad Scholarship (SAS). Both scholarships are part of our new Global Scholarships program, which also includes the Syrian Scholars Initiative and the Exchange Student Scholarship for incoming exchange students.
